EU announces $124M grant to improve Cambodian fisheries

The European Union (EU) and Cambodian government on Wednesday jointly announced a $124-million, five-year grant to improve the country’s fisheries sector. The new aid project comes amid the EU’s review of duty-free trade with Cambodia over political and human rights concerns. Prime Minister Hun Sen’s ruling Cambodian People’s Party won all 125 seats in last year’s national election after the main opposition party was banned from contesting the vote.

Hun Sen orders halt to issuing of online gambling licenses

Prime Minister Hun Sen on Sunday issued a directive to end the issuing of online gambling licenses in the country, saying the industry had been exploited by foreign criminals. “The Royal Government of Cambodia will stop the issuance of online gambling policy and licenses, both within and outside of the Kingdom of Cambodia, from the date of signing this directive,” the directive said.
