After More Deaths, Renewed Calls to Close Government-run Homeless Center

At least two people died in August after not receiving proper medical care at government-run Prey Speu Social Affairs Center, and evidence suggests more than 10 detainees have died since July, according to a Wednesday announcement from human rights NGO Licadho.

Youth activists cry foul after being turned away from community forests

Koh Kong Province’s Botum Sakor district: Ouch Vanthan, the wife of imprisoned online news publisher Yuon Chhiv, has spoken out about her husband’s arrest over his reporting on a land dispute in a protected area at the Botum Sakor national park.

Kandal villagers report feeling pressured into accepting land compensation

A number of families affected by the new airport project in Kandal Stung district are still refusing to accept the state’s proposed compensation for their land, instead hoping that the upcoming commune elections will bring them a better solution. Others have decided to take the compensation, causing concerns that an ongoing court case against nine villagers is putting pressure on the community.
