Land Ministry, Involved in Angkor Evictions, Proposes New Plan to Resolve Land Use Disputes, Minister Says

The Land Ministry, which was heavily involved in the relocating of thousands of Angkor Wat residents – a process rights groups condemned as forced – is now pushing a new mechanism to address long-running land use disputes among remaining communities, according to the minister.

NGO Asks Parents To Encourage Children To Talk About Online Sexual Abuse, Exploitation

Parents play a very important role in preventing online abuse, according to Dutch group Terre des Hommes Netherlands (TdH NL), which launched a campaign last year to raise awareness on online safety. It urged parents to pay more attention to children’s activities online, discuss safety issues, and encourage them to seek support if they encounter online abuse.

Give Their Land Titles Instead of Harassing, Intimidating Samrong Tbong Community, CSOs Tell Authorities

Thirty eight civil society organizations including the Cambodian Center for Human Rights (CCHR), Sahmakum Teang Tnaut (STT) and local communities have urged the government and authorities to immediately stop harassing and intimidating Samrong Tbong residents and give them their land titles.

Prek Takong Villagers Fear Losing Land Following Expiration Of A Land Lease Contract

Twenty five families in Prek Takong 1 village of Chak Angreleu commune are concerned about losing their plots of land, which were rented out to the Meanchey district authority to build a temporary sewage canal. However, the six-month tenancy agreement beginning March 2023 has expired and the authorities have yet to return the land to them.

Police Locate 56 Foreign Trafficking Victims in Phnom Penh, Arrest Two Suspects

The General Department of Immigration arrested two Bangladeshi citizens on human trafficking charges on January 11, following a search of two locations in Phnom Penh. Authorities also found 51 Bangladeshis victims, four Indian victims and one Sri Lankan victim.

On Monday hundreds of families living inside the Angkor archaeological park protested against the Apsara National Authority, which manages the park, for barring them from doing construction and other activities that support their livelihoods.

Ratanakiri Court Sentences Theng Savoeun, Two Others To Five Years Jail But Suspends It

Ratanakiri Provincial Court has sentenced Theng Savoeun, president of the Coalition of Cambodian Farmer Community (CCFC), and two associates, Nhel Pheap and Thann Hach, to five years jail for “plotting and incitement”. However, the sentences have been suspended, according to court spokesperson Keo Pheakdey.
