Worsening floods drive Dangkor residents from their homes

Families living in Phnom Penh’s Dangkor district have been forced to leave their homes after the Prek Tnaot river overflowed. Authorities have also said that the 7 Makara Dam in the city’s south has also been leaking after being damaged by the high level of rainfall.

Dropout rate among students is increasing during the COVID-19 crisis

With in-person school closed and her family facing worsening financial difficulties, Sopey decided to drop out of ninth grade in Preah Sihanouk province last year to become a garment worker in order to support her family. Speaking in a miserable voice, Sopey — now 17 — said in an interview that she badly wishes she could return to school.

Thousands of households and farmland hit by flooding in northwest

Around 4,000 households have been affected by flooding in northwest Cambodia following weeks of heavy rainfall and flooding that has intensified over the past few days, impacting thousands of hectares of rice paddies, roads and other infrastructure and forcing thousands of families to be evacuated from their homes.
