The body of 21-year-old Amelia Bambridge was found on Thursday afternoon about 100 km from Koh Rong island where she disappeared after a beach party one week ago, officials said.

Preah Sihanouk provincial police chief Chuon Narin said the body was found near Thai waters and was taken to the provincial referral hospital for an autopsy. The Interior Ministry’s general department of immigration said the body was brought back to port at about 6:20 p.m.

Bambridge’s brother, Harry Bambridge, said on his Facebook page on Thursday that he had seen the body and confirmed it was his little sister.

“I’m so sorry to all her friends and family there’s nothing more I wanted then to bring her back alive and I really Fucking tried,” he wrote. “I’m sorry to you Amelia Bambridge the round is on me when we meet again in heaven.”

Her backpack was earlier found on a rock off the coast, just meters away from the beach party where she was last seen on Oct. 24.

Before her body was found, police officials questioned at least 20 people as part of their investigation.

Seng Long, director of the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Referral Hospital, could not be reached for comment on Thursday.
