The Khmer Rouge Tribunal on Wednesday was set to commence three days of hearings against Meas Muth, a former navy commander, over whether his case should go to trial.
Khmer Rouge Brother No. 2 Nuon Chea’s appeal of his genocide conviction has been dropped after he died in hospital aged 93 on Sunday, his lawyer said. The Extraordinary Chambers in the Court of Cambodia held the press conference about Mr Chea’s passing away last night at Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital in Phnom Penh.
Former senior Khmer Rouge leader Nuon Chea, who was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for genocide, died in hospital yesterday. Neth Pheaktra, spokesman for the Extraordinary Chambers in the Court of Cambodia (ECCC), said that Chea died yesterday evening at the Khmer Soviet Friendship Hospital where he had been hospitalized last month.
