Cambodian government refutes UN criticisms of internet gateway law

The Cambodian government defended the country’s planned National Internet Gateway (NIG), after three UN Special Rapporteurs raised concerns, saying it could be used to suppress online freedom of expression.

Internet service provider MekongNet said it was concerned about network reliability and potential costs attached to a newly-issued sub-decree establishing a national internet gateway (NIG) that would see it exert control over Cambodians’ online communications.
