Y&W Garment Workers Receive Compensation, Will Look for New Jobs After Khmer New Year

Having received their compensation from March 22 to 25, Y&W Garment Co Ltd workers say they will start looking for jobs after Khmer New Year. Some have secured new jobs although work conditions were difficult compared to their old jobs. Pregnant workers, however, continue to face difficulties.

Mondulkiri Court Questions Adhoc Official, Four Bunong Natives After They File Evidence of Forest Clearing

Mondulkiri provincial court on Monday questioned NGO rights group Adhoc official and four Punong natives after land brokers and fellow villagers filed a defamation and incitement complaint against them. The complaint was made after the suspects submitted evidence of chopped trees and encroachment by the plaintiffs, made up of land brokers and a few villagers.

Boeung Tamok Residents Protest Against Canal Project As Excavator, Authorities Descend

Three people were injured when a clash occurred between 40 Boeung Tamok residents and Prek Pnov district authorities as the latter comprising 50 officers began excavating the ground to build a canal early Tuesday morning.

Chbar Ampov Authority Orders Shut STT’s Urban Poor Photo Exhibition, No Reason Given

Two days after it opened to the public, district authorities ordered Sahmakum Teang Tnaut (STT) to immediately desist their photo exhibition themed "House and Life" in a restaurant in Chbar Ampov on the afternoon of February 25. No reason was given for the shutdown order of the 10-day exhibition planned till March 4.

STT Photo Exhibition Displays Lives of Urban Poor, Lack of Property Rights To Seek Joint Solutions

Sahmakum Teang Tnaut (STT)’s free photo exhibition showcased 60 photos on the life of urban poor communities including land insecurity, resettlement, lack of pre-arranged services and infrastructure, and forced evictions. It also sheds light on the present condition of city lakes and the environmental impact due to the destruction of lakes in Phnom Penh by companies, private sectors, and public figures, according to the organization.

Court Questions Boeung Tamok Residents Accused of Crimes Against Public Officials

On Wednesday Phnom Penh Municipal Court began questioning Boeung Tamok residents who are being sued by the Prek Pnov district official Sok Ban for alleged intentional violence, property damage and crimes against public officials. The court spoke with one of the seven defendants, with questioning scheduled to continue on Thursday and Friday.
