Phnom Penh Villagers Protests Overlapping Land Title With Tycoon Khun Sea’s Company

About 50 families in Phnom Penh protested in front of the Phnom Penh City Hall after coming to know about the issuance of land titles to Eco Megapolis Development Cooperation Co Ltd which overlapped their land. The villagers, around 40 of them from Prek Kampoes commune in Dangkor district, feared being evicted from their present land following the new development on the title.

LGBT People Continue to Experience High Level of Sexual Harassment At Work

A study on workplace sexual harassment by Banteay Srei and Love is Diversity has found that 30% of women, 37% of men, and 90% of LGBT people have experienced some form of violation at work. Male and female employees of all ages also claimed that they have previously quit their jobs due to sexual harassment and felt uncomfortable going to work.

Court Questions Two Boeng Tamok Residents Over Assault Charges

Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Thursday questioned two Boeng Tamok community members who were charged in May with assaulting Prek Pnov district authorities. Around 30 people​​ gathered outside the court during the three and a half hour hearing, many to support the community members charged.

CCHR Encourages Women Activists to Prioritize Mental Health

The Cambodian Center for Human Rights (CCHR) highlighted the importance of mental health support for women activists as part of the annual international campaign 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. The nonprofit held an event Friday where mental health service providers spoke about how women human rights defenders are subjected to violence, harassment and discrimination.

Seng Theary Hospitalized After Hunger Strike, Trial Postponed

The Court of Appeal postponed the trial of prominent Cambodian American lawyer and human rights advocate Seng Theary after learning she had been hospitalized following a hunger strike. Her lawyer submitted a request to the court to delay her trial which was supposed to take place on Wednesday.

Takeo Farmers Begrudge $1 Per Square Meter Land Compensation by Phnom Penh Airport Developer

Nearly 100 farmers in Bati district whose land had been earmarked for the development of the $1.5 billion Techo Takhmao International Airport project are appealing to the new government for a solution for the loss of livelihood after canals were dug up by tycoon Pung Khiev Se’s Overseas Cambodia Investment Corporation (OCIC). They claim that seeking solutions from the local authorities for the issue, which has prolonged for two years now, are ineffective.
