Son Chhay Charged with defamation over commune election comments

The Phnom Penh Municipal Court this week charged Candlelight Party Vice President Son Chhay with defamation after he criticized June’s commune elections and the National Election Committee (NEC) and the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) responded by both filing lawsuits against him.

Minor political parties discuss alliance ahead of National Election

The Grassroots Democratic Party (GDP) said Tuesday it was seeking to make an alliance with other minor parties ahead of the 2023 National Election, though analysts and other party officials suggest it will be a challenge to create a coalition strong enough to challenge the ruling party’s dominance of the National Assembly.
