World Teachers’ Day

The Cambodian Independent Teachers Association gathered in front of the headquarter in Phnom Penh to celebrate World Teachers’ Day. They also submitted petitions to the National Assembly, the Royal Government of Cambodia, and the Ministry of Education, requesting that they review and address eight key issues, including:

  • Increasing teachers’ base salaries to one-quarter of lawmakers’ salaries. They also requested that retirement pensions for retired teachers be calculated based on their basic salaries, position allowances, and additional benefits.
  • Reducing fuel prices to 4,000 riel per liter and lowering market prices for goods to a reasonable level.
  • Eliminating corruption in the education sector.
  • Ending discrimination against associations and guaranteeing teachers the freedom and right to form trade unions.
  • Granting citizens a two-year extension to repay their bank loans.
  • Restoring the freedom of teacher Rong Chhun and releasing politician Seng Chan Theavy, along with all other prisoners of conscience.
  • Filing a complaint against Thailand over its alleged aggression against Cambodia at an international court and requesting intervention from the co-chairs of the Paris Peace Agreements on Cambodia.

However, the petitions were received by Phnom Penh Deputy Governor Sok Penh Vuth in front of the headquarters of the Cambodian Independent Teachers Association on October 5, 2026.
