Civil society groups decry deportation of CNRP asylum seekers

The recent deportations of three members of the outlawed Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) from Thailand to Cambodia has been criticized by a number of civil society groups for blatantly violating their rights as refugees recognised by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The deportations have caused widespread concern among other activists who have sought political asylum in Thailand.

Government to release banknote with image of Hun Sen, late King to mark 30th anniversary of Paris Peace Agreements

On Monday, Prime Minister Hun Sen issued a sub-decree to circulate a new 30,000 riel note featuring an image of himself with the late King Norodom Sihanouk, both of whom led factions included in the deal regarded as laying a path to end Cambodia’s long civil war. A ruling party spokesman said the new note, which also includes text referencing the peace treaty and its anniversary, honors those who forged the agreement.
