Siem Reap communities under lockdown to stop spread of COVID-19

A handful of communities in Siem Reap city have been ordered into lockdown in a bid to halt the spread of COVID-19 in Cambodia’s main tourist hub.

Cambodia records almost 1,000 cases of COVID-19 Delta variant

Almost 1,000 cases of the more contagious Delta variant of COVID-19 have been found across Cambodia since the end of March, according to new figures released by the Ministry of Health.

More than 600 people who have been undergoing treatment for drug addiction at Banteay Meanchey’s Chivith Thmey (“New Life”) Phnom Bak Center in Serei Sophorn City have tested positive for COVID-19 since August 16. Twenty samples from the center reportedly tested by the Pasteur Institute in Phnom Penh also confirmed the presence of the more contagious Delta variant.

Unions and civil society groups are urging the government to prioritize garment workers for a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine as the highly contagious Delta variant continues to spread.
