UPDATES:
18:21: A 33-year-old resident, Hong Kuy, who is sheltering in Oddar Meanchey province, expressed relief over the ceasefire agreement but remained skeptical about Thailand’s commitment to peace.
“I’m very happy that the fighting has stopped, but I don’t trust it will hold because Thai forces are still attacking,” he said.
Kuy, whose family and five relatives were displaced on the night of July 24 following Thai shelling, warned that continued fighting would bring further hardship.
“If the clash continues, villagers will suffer—our homes are damaged, and we still have loans to repay,” he added.
Another local resident, Chouy Choeun, 46, also welcomed news of a ceasefire amid escalating border tensions.
“Yes, I’m very happy they stopped fighting. People have been fleeing their homes,” he said.
“We’re living in fear of the gunfire. We’re hungry and can’t sleep properly because of the constant sound of explosions,” Choeun said. He is currently sheltering in a trench near his home in Bos Sbov commune, Oddar Meanchey province.
Cambodia and Thailand reached a common understanding as follows:
1. An immediate and unconditional ceasefire will take effect from midnight (local time), July 28, 2025.This is a vital first step towards de-escalation and the restoration of peace and security.
2. An informal meeting of regional military commanders will be held at 7:00 a.m. on July 29, 2025. This includes Regions 1 and 2 on the Thai side, and Regions 4 and 5 on the Cambodian side. If both sides agree, the meeting will be followed by discussions with defense attachés, led by the ASEAN Chair.
3. A meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) will take place on August 4, 2025, hosted by Cambodia as the current ASEAN Chair. Malaysia has expressed its readiness to coordinate and deploy an observation team to verify and support the implementation.
ASEAN will continue to coordinate and monitor the implementation of the ceasefire to ensure both parties uphold the agreement.
Breaking: Prime Minister Hun Manet said today’s meeting leads to an agreement that will stop the fighting immediately, starting from tonight. It also opens up engagement between both the militaries from tomorrow morning, starting with the regional commanders meeting at 7 a.m.
He thanked Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, for his positive role in the constructive dialogue with acting Thai Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai.
“The dialogue opens ways for our engagement between military and military from tomorrow morning, starting with the regional commanders meeting at seven o’clock in the morning,” Hun Manet remarked.
Acting Thai Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai said today’s outcome reflects Thailand’s desire for peace resolution while continuing to protect Thai sovereignty and life of Thai people. He added that this meeting will be carried out successfully and in good faith.

14:22: Touch Sokkhak, spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior, said it is regrettable that some citizens have fallen for the “dirty tricks” of Thailand to become undercover agents by installing GPS tracking systems to secretly record and provide information about military activities, especially battlefield positions, which seriously affects national security. Authorities have arrested the people and uncovered concrete evidence.
He said Cambodia will not tolerate those found committing acts of treason as follows:
1. People who collude with a foreign country or create hostility, which results in acts of aggression against Cambodia, will be punished between 15 and 30 years.
2. People who give or facilitate access of information to foreign parties will be punished between seven and 15 years.
3. Those who receive or collect information to pass to a foreign country will be punished from five to 10 years.
4. Violent acts that endanger state institutions or affect the territorial integrity of Cambodia are punishable by 15 to 30 years in prison.
In addition to these punishments, “traitors” will be “stripped off their Khmer citizenship” in accordance with the law.
13:10: The Thai military reportedly bombed the Preah Vihear temple with 230kg MK-82 munitions and fired 155mm cluster shells, according to CMAC Director Heng Ratana. He noted no prior use of MK-82s at the site in the past 50 years, calling the attack unprecedented and praising Cambodian forces for defending national territory and heritage.
Cambodia and Thai military exchange fire as both government heads flew to Kuala Lumpur for a meeting to negotiate a ceasefire today.
Maly Socheata, spokesperson for Cambodia’s National Defense Ministry, dismissed Thailand’s claims that Cambodia fired PHL-03 long-range missiles. “So far, Cambodia has not used such missiles, and this is not the time to do so. This baseless accusation is a pretext for the Thai side to increase the use of weapons that are more brutal and inhumane, and deploy powerful attacks on Cambodian sovereignty.”

1. The situation in the Fourth Army Region:
– 3:10 a.m: Thai army fired artillery at the Ta Moan Thom and Ta Krabey temples
– 5:30 a.m: Thai infantry entered Ta Krabey temple deploying mortars and artillery
– 5:50 a.m: Thai infantry retreated, although artillery shelling continued in the Ta Moan Thom and Ta Krabey areas
2. In other areas:
– 8:15 a.m: Thai F16 aircraft fired rockets at the Ta Krabey temple area

10:35 a.m: Prime Minister Hun Manet has left for a high-level meeting in Kuala Lumpur to negotiate a ceasefire with Thailand. The meeting is hosted by Malaysia, co-organized by the U.S. with the participation of China.
Despite a planned high-level meeting between the Cambodian prime minister and Thai acting prime minister in Kuala Lumpur today to negotiate a ceasefire, Thai forces launched a strong attack in Ta Moan Thom and Ta Krabey temple areas from 3:10 a.m. until 5:07 a.m, according to Maly Socheata, spokesperson of the National Defence Ministry.
Prime Minister Hun Manet will lead a delegation to attend the special meeting in Kuala Lumpur hosted by Malaysia, co-organized by the United States with the participation of China.
Socheata said Thai forces launched attacks on multiple locations, including Ta Moan Thom Temple, Chubkakir, Thmar Daun, Veal Entry, 5 Makara, Ta Tav, Phnom Khmoch, and An Ses. The assault was particularly intense at 5 Makara, where Thai troops attempted to “seize Keo Sikha Kiri Svara Pagoda” in Preah Vihear province, However, Cambodian forces held their positions firmly.

July 27, 2:00a.m- 1:00p.m – Thai forces attacked several places in 5 Makara, Chamka Chek, and the Preah Vihear Temple.
3:17 p.m – Thai aircraft dropped toxic smoke over An Ses.
4:12 p.m – Shells were fired at Cambodian positions in Chub Kaki, Thmar Daun, while Ta Moan Thom and Ta Krabey temples also came under artillery fire as well as in 5 Makara, Phnom Khmoch, and An Ses.
1:10- 4:00p.m. – Thai fighter jets launched multiple rockets at Ta Moan Thom Temple, Ta Krabey Temple, and several other locations within Cambodian territory.
4:48:p.m – Thai troops began firing in the Mom Tei area.
5:06: p.m – Suicide drones, cluster bombs, and toxic smoke were deployed by Thai forces in an attack on Phnom Khmoch.
July 28, 3:10-5:07a.m – Thai launched the first attack on Ta Moan Thom Temple and Ta Krabey Temple.
Meanwhile, at Banteay Meachey province, Socheata said that from 5:00 p.m on July 27 to 5:00 a.m on July 28, Thai military increased troops, tanks, and armored vehicles, which were stationed at Teab Siam village, directly across Cambodia’s southern development area of Bong Trakuan border checkpoint.
She added that as of July 27, 2025, a total of 39,828 families—approximately 134,707 individuals—were evacuated to safe zones or stayed with relatives across four provinces. Some 600 schools in five provinces were closed, which affected over 150,000 students and 6,000 teachers.
According to the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, around 150,000 Cambodian migrant workers are expected to return from Thailand today. Over the past five days, approximately 400,000 workers came back, with numbers likely to rise if the conflict persists.
“Cambodia has received multiple reports of attacks and threats by Thai extremists against Cambodian citizens living in Thailand—acts described as illegal and inhumane,” Socheata said, adding that the Cambodian government urges Thai authorities to take immediate action to protect Cambodian nationals, arrest those responsible, and ensure justice and accountability for the victims.
