Climate change is not a future concern for garment workers, but one that is already affecting their lives in the present, with over two-thirds of them presently suffering the effects of global warming, according to a report by NGO-CEDAW.

Alleged Sangke River Polluter, Chinese-owned Phoenix Operating Again in Battambang

Phoenix, a pharmaceutical company based in Battambang province, which released wastewater into Sangke River last August, has not yet complied with an order by the Ministry of Environment to relocate and restore the environment surrounding the river. It started operating again earlier in December.

Kuy Community Protest Against Outsiders, Encroachment on Customary Land

Nearly 200 Kuy indigenous people from Dang Phlet and Narong villages in Preah Vihear province’s Chheb district gathered to halt an excavator from razing their traditional land or “customary land”, as it is known, which has been cultivated on for many generations.

Prey Lang Community Network (PLCN) in Preah Vihear province, which investigates forest crimes in Prey Lang has found many crimes, including forest land encroachments in four locations and incessant deforestation. Environmental activists safeguarding the remaining forest, exhort relevant authorities to collaborate with stakeholders to bring perpetrators to justice and put an end to forest crimes.

New Project Aims to Support Cambodia’s Workers Impacted By Climate Change

The international workers rights organization Solidarity Center launched a new project this week focused on supporting vulnerable workers impacted by climate change as industries shift to more sustainable production. The Just Transition for Workers project will be implemented in Phnom Penh, Battambang, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville.
