Takeo Farmers Begrudge $1 Per Square Meter Land Compensation by Phnom Penh Airport Developer

Nearly 100 farmers in Bati district whose land had been earmarked for the development of the $1.5 billion Techo Takhmao International Airport project are appealing to the new government for a solution for the loss of livelihood after canals were dug up by tycoon Pung Khiev Se’s Overseas Cambodia Investment Corporation (OCIC). They claim that seeking solutions from the local authorities for the issue, which has prolonged for two years now, are ineffective.

Large-scale Mekong River landfilling draws concern eco-system and water way

Almost every day for the past year about a dozen boats carrying thousands of cubic meters of sand dump their load at Koh Norea, a small tip of land where the Mekong spills into the Bassac river. According to workers at the site, the sand comes from the upper Mekong, part of a vast dredging process to provide sufficient landfill for Cambodia’s latest supersized development project: a massive satellite city just south east of Phnom Penh, totaling 125 hectares.

NagaCorp resort development could degrade Angkor, Unesco warns

The “Angkor Lake of Wonder” - a $350-million dollar resort town to be built by NagaCorp just outside the Angkor Archaeological Park in Siem Reap - could “have an impact on the outstanding universal value” that had the ancient capital inscribed as a Unesco World Heritage site, the U.N. agency said.
