Civil society leaders urge release of imprisoned opposition members ahead of 2022 commune elections

In a Wednesday press conference held online, representatives of roughly 60 civil society groups urged the government to release prisoners of conscience and work to establish political neutrality among the judiciary, military and National Election Committee ahead of the 2022 commune council polls.

A new report examining the participation of women in politics within a single-party Cambodian state has found that male violence remains a key barrier to entry.

NEC chairman steps down due health problem

Hang Puthea, spokesman for the NEC, confirmed the resignation saying that he has an unspecified medical issue for which he received surgery abroad. He sent his resignation to the National Assembly on Tuesday and it was approved Friday.
