Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul ordered the suspension of the peace accord and authorized military operations following this morning’s National Security Council (NSC)’s decision as two of their soldiers were injured in a landmine explosion on Monday.
The council discussed the suspension of the joint declaration with Cambodia, halting the release of 18 captured Cambodian soldiers, while urging Cambodia to take full responsibility for the landmine incident, according to Thai media on Tuesday.
Thai media reported that Defense Minister Nattaphon Nakphanit said that the military has been given the green light to manage the border situation and that “there will be no more negotiations”.
Government spokesperson Pen Bona confirmed that Cambodia has not received any official letter from the Thai government regarding the suspension of the peace deal.
He added that Cambodia has already issued two statements in response to Thailand’s decision.
Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson Chum Sounry did not respond to the media enquiries while National Defense Ministry spokesperson Maly Socheata referred to their statement.
