The Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord was designed to do something rare in a heated border crisis. It tried to separate military de-escalation from political theatre. Signed in Kuala Lumpur on 26 October 2025, the joint declaration commits Cambodia and Thailand to refrain from the threat or use of force, support an ASEAN Observer Team, remove heavy weapons from the border, coordinate humanitarian demining, and stop inflammatory rhetoric that hardens public sentiment.
