Media Told to Be Respectful When Reporting Gender-based Issues

The Ministry of Women's Affairs, in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and UNESCO, organized an annual press forum on gender equality, highlighting the role of the press in promoting gender equality and preventing violence against women. In line with that, gender experts called on the media to adhere to professional codes when reporting on women and vulnerable people.

Women Journalists Seek Police Understanding, Cooperation; Media Groups Stress Value of Access to Information Law

The Women’s Media Centre of Cambodia (WMC) held a dialogue on October 7 between police officers and women journalists to address challenges and strengthen cooperation between both parties. Media associations believe that these efforts will improve with the passing of the draft law on Access to Information, which will specify the places and information accessible to journalists.

The U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh and 49 local and international NGOs have called on the Cambodian government to immediately release local journalist Mech Dara following his arrest and pre-trial detention over an incitement charge, which took place over the past two days.

Journalist, Noted for Scam Compound Coverage, Arrested

UPDATE: Dara has been charged with "incitement to disturb social security" over his social media posts from September and has been placed in pre-trial detention at Kandal provincial prison, according to Phnom Penh Municipal Court spokesperson Y Rin.
