Phnom Penh Court Issues Six to Eight Years Jail Sentence On Mother Nature Activists, Four Arrested Outside

Breaking: On Tuesday morning, four out of 10 Mother Nature activists were arrested shortly after the Phnom Penh Municipal Court dropped its verdict on them for insulting the King and plotting to overthrow the government. 

Four activists – Ly Chandaravuth, Thon Ratha, Long Kunthea and Phuon Keoreaksmey – were arrested outside the court after the verdict was issued in absentia.  

Three defendants, including Spanish national and Mother Nature co-founder Alejandro Gonzalez-Davidson, Yim Leanghy and Sun Ratha were sentenced to eight years in prison and fined $2,500 each on both counts of insulting the King and plotting.

The remaining seven activists were sentenced to six years jail for plotting against the government. No fine was imposed.
